Golf's Lewis Sturdy Named A-10 Rookie of the Week
April 17, 2006 WASHINGTON, DC -- George Washington freshman Lewis Sturdy (Keston, Kent, England/Tonbridge) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week for men's golf, the conference office announced Monday. It marked his second A-10 weekly honor for the freshman from England. He also picked up the honor on March 21. Sturdy finished tied for third at the Navy Spring Invitational last Friday and Saturday at the 6,528-yard, par-71 Naval Academy Golf Course. Sturdy recorded 25 pars in the 36 holes. He matched his career-low round with a second-round 70 on Saturday. His 36-hole total of 141 is his career best and it marked his second straight Top-10 finish this season. He tied senior Brian Carroll for low Colonial at last week's Princeton Invitational. Sturdy now has a 76.6 stroke average through 14 rounds in seven tournaments. The Colonials' next competition is this Saturday and Sunday, April 22-23, when they travel to State College, PA to compete in the Rutherford Intercollegiate tournament hosted by Penn State.
