Golf's Carroll Named A-10 Player/Rookie of the Week

April 21, 2003

WASHINGTON, DC - GW's Brian Carroll (Crystal Lake, IL/Crystal Lake South) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Player and Rookie of the Week for men's golf, the league office has announced. It marks his first A-10 Player of the Week award and second A-10 Rookie award. He also won the honor on Oct. 21, 2002.

Carroll tied for second among 76 golfers at the Rehoboth Spring Invitational at Kings Creek Country Club April 13-14 in Delaware. He carded a two-over-par 146 for 36 holes to lead the Colonials to a second-place team finish among the 15-team field. The finish marked the second tournament in which Carroll placed among the top two finishers. He earlier won the Lehigh Tournament Oct. 14-15 with a 147 last fall.

In the fall, Carroll became the second Colonial to win a tournament this season when he fired a 70-77-147 to capture the Don Mershon Classic at the par-72, 6,859-yard Indian Valley Country Club in Telford, PA, Oct. 14, 2002. It marked the first GW team victory since the 1999 St. Bonaventure Invitational. Carroll became just the fifth Colonial to win an individual tournament title in the last nine years.
