NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington golf senior Andres Pumariega was named to the Atlantic 10 Golf Academic All-Conference Team, announced by the league. The team was selected by a vote of the conference's golf media relations directors.
The yearly academic award marks the first for Pumariega, who earned a spot on the A-10 All-Conference Team after leading the Colonials to their first-ever league title on April 29.
An international business major, Pumariega earned a spot on the GW Athletics Department Academic Dean's List this past February.
The Miami, Fla., native helped the sixth-seeded Colonials to a conference crown and a school-record 36-hole score of 8-under par 568 after he finished second in the field of 55 golfers. Pumariega fired a two-round total of 5-under par 139 to finish just one stroke behind individual champion Raoul Menard of Charlotte. His second-round score of 5-under 67 was the lowest round of the Championship.
Pumariega and GW travel to Greensboro, N.C., this week to compete in NCAA Tournament Regional play for the first time since 2006. The Buff and Blue tee off at Grandover Resort's East Golf Course at 8 a.m. on Thursday.
