Golf's Brian Carroll Named A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year
May 17, 2005 PHILADELPHIA, PA -- George Washington's Brian Carroll (Crystal Lake, IL/Crystal Lake South) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Student-Athlete of the Year in the sport of men's golf in voting conducted among the Conference's Sports Information Directors, the conference office announced Tuesday. To be eligible for Academic All-Conference consideration, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average for their collegiate career and be a starter or important reserve. The Colonials' co-captain competed in 14 tournaments during the 2004-05 season, placing among the top 10 seven times, including four second-place finishes. He also had three top-20 finishes. He led GW with a 74.59 stroke average over 30.5 rounds. He matched his season low round of 70 three times, including one at the Princeton Invitational to help George Washington to the team title. Carroll maintains a 3.54 grade point average as a finance major. He has been a member of George Washington's Dean's List three semesters and the GW Athletic Dean's List all five semesters. He is also a three-time member of the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll. He is enrolled in GW's School of Business and Public Management and is one of two golf representatives on GW's Student-Athlete Advisory Council. Carroll is joined on the men's golf Academic All-Conference team by Colonials' teammate Andrew Gallo (Toronto, ONT/Crescent), Kenneth Fahey of Rhode Island, Temple's Logan Terry, and Tom Wears of Duquesne. Carroll and Fahey were also members of last year's Academic All-Conference team. The Colonials' other co-captain, Gallo posted a 75.96 stroke average (third-best on team) after competing in 12 tournaments (27.5 rounds). He recorded a pair of Top-10 finishes and three Top-20 finishes this season. He shot his low round of the year (a 66) at the James Madison Invitational last Fall. Gallo placed third at the Rehoboth Beach Invitational which helped GW to the team title last Fall. He has qualified for both the Canadian and British Amateur championship tournaments. He maintains a 3.32 GPA as a criminal justice major. He has been a member of the University's Dean's List two semesters and a member of the GW Athletic Dept. Dean's List four semesters as well as twice to the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll. Both Carroll and Gallo are the golf representatives on GW's Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and both have met the criteria for Academic All-America. 2005 Men's Golf Academic All-Conference Team
