Pumariega US Open Sectional Qualifier Live Scoring
LECANTO, Fla. – George Washington golf senior Andres Pumariega will compete in the 2012 U.S. Open Sectional Qualifier on Monday, June 4, with hopes of securing a spot in the 112th U.S. Open Championship.
Pumariega tees off at 8:25 a.m. on Monday at the Black Diamond Ranch Quarry Golf Course in Lecanto, Fla., and will play the one-day 36-hole marathon with a field of 58 golfers. The Miami, Fla., native advanced to the sectional qualifier after carding a 2-under par 70 at the local qualifier at The Country Club of Naples in Naples, Fla., on May 15.
Sectional qualifying will take place at 13 USGA-selected sites – 11 in the United States and two overseas in Japan and England. With only a handful of available spots at each sectional site, qualifying spots will be determined by the field’s numbers and strength.
On Thursday, Pumariega was named to the 2012 NCAA Division I PING All-Northeast Region Team as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. GW’s Team MVP the past two seasons, Pumariega helped the sixth-seeded Colonials to their first-ever A-10 Championship in April with a school-record 36-hole score of 8-under par 568 after he placed second in the field of 55 golfers. He fired a two-round total of 5-under par 139 to finish just one stroke behind individual champion Raoul Menard of Charlotte, while his second-round 5-under 67 was the lowest round of the Championship.
