GW Golf Adds Dan Mirabella

June 12, 2002

Washington, DC - The George Washington University has received a commitment from Dan Mirabella (Ann Arbor, MI/Saline HS) to join the golf team in the fall of 2003, head golf coach Scott Allen has announced.

Mirabella was a four-year starter and captain of the Saline High School golf team. He earned All-League Honors, was All-State Honorable Mention and first team Academic All-State at the conclusion of his senior year. Mirabella amassed several Top 10 and Top 20 finishes in major junior competition. He finished seventh at the 2001 FCWT-Melrose Classic, shooting 75-76. He placed 10th at the 2002 FCWT-Daufskie Island Classic, shooting 75-75, and he finished 16th at the 2002 FCWT-University of Florida Classic with a three-round total of 224, highlighted by an opening-round 71. He placed 16th in the 2001 World Junior Golf Cup in Orlando, FL, shooting a 154 total.

"Dan has a solid resume with good results in national events from all over the nation, but it was his visit that really won us over," Allen said. "He got along very well with the guys on the team and I think he'll be a great fit for GW, both athletically and academically."

Mirabella, who chose GW over Connecticut and Holy Cross, plans to major in accounting or finance and minor in political science.

Two more recruits are expected to sign with GW in the coming weeks. The Colonials open their 2002-03 campaign Sept. 7-8 at the U.S. Naval Academy Invitational.
