June 27, 2005

NORMAN, OK -- George Washington's Brian Carroll (Crystal Lake, IL/Crystal Lake South) and Andrew Gallo (Toronto, ONT/Crescent) have been named to the Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar Team, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced earlier this month.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically and competed in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Thomas Blankvoort (`02) is the only other Colonial to be named to the team, earning the honor in 2001 and 2002.

Carroll, the Colonials' co-captain, was named the 2005 Atlantic 10 Conference Student-Athlete of the Year for men's golf. He competed in 14 tournaments during the 2004-05 season, placing among the top 10 seven times, including four second-place finishes. He also had three top-20 finishes. He led GW with a 74.59 stroke average over 30.5 rounds. He matched his season low round of 70 three times, including one at the Princeton Invitational to help George Washington to the team title.

Carroll maintains a 3.54 grade point average as a finance major. He has been a member of GW's Dean's List three semesters and the GW Athletic Dean's List all five semesters. He is also a three-time member of the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll. He is enrolled in GW's School of Business and Public Management and is one of two golf representatives on GW's Student-Athlete Advisory Council.

The Colonials' other co-captain, Gallo posted a 75.96 stroke average (third-best on team) after competing in 12 tournaments (27.5 rounds). He recorded a pair of Top-10 finishes and three Top-20 finishes this season. He shot his low round of the year (a 66) at the James Madison Invitational last Fall. Gallo placed third at the Rehoboth Beach Invitational which helped GW to the team title last Fall. He has qualified for both the Canadian and British Amateur championship tournaments. He maintains a 3.32 GPA as a criminal justice major. He has been a member of the University's Dean's List two semesters and a member of the GW Athletic Dept. Dean's List four semesters as well as twice to the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Both Carroll and Gallo also are the golf representatives on GW's Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC).
