Golf Adds Raman Luthra, Jack Tyler

Aug. 11, 2003

WASHINGTON, DC - Raman Luthra (East Amherst, NY/Nichols School) and Jack Tyler (Novi, MI/Novi H.S.) have joined the George Washington University golf program, coach Scott Allen has announced. Luthra has signed a national letter-of-intent while Tyler has committed to the team as a recruited walk-on.

Luthra graduated from the Nichols School in Buffalo, NY, in 2002 and chose to take a postgraduate year at the International Junior Golf Academy in Hilton Head, SC. While there, Luthra was a part-time student at the University of South Carolina-Hilton Head. Last winter, he finished 15th at the IJGT at Berkley Hall with 148, second with 147 at the IJGT Sea Trail Classic and third at the IJGT at Duke University (in cold February weather) with 84-71. As a junior golfer, Luthra had four Top 10 finishes in AJGA competition. In 2002, he finished 10th at both the AJGA Lessings Classic and the AJGA Chicago Junior with 229 and 222, respectively. In 2001, Luthra finished eighth at the AJGA Eastern-Canada Junior with 223 and sixth at the AJGA Sand Barrens Junior with 79-69-71.

Tyler was the runner-up in the 2002 Michigan High School Championship shooting 72-77 falling to only Michigan State-bound Matt Harmon. Tyler also played exceptionally well on the Power-Built Tour. In addition to his talents on the links, he also is a Division I caliber swimmer.

The Colonials open their season Sept. 13-14 at the 36-hole U.S. Naval Academy Fall Invitational.
