Golf Heads to VCU Janney Invitational

Sept. 16, 2017

TEEING OFF: The GW golf team tees off in its second tournament of the season on Monday at the VCU Janney Invitational in Richmond, Virginia. Participating Colonials are Logan Lowe, Christian Cichan, Jack Porcelli, Vince Palazzolo, Adrian Castagnola and Clifford Thompson.

FORMAT: The tournament features 36 holes on Monday with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start, and 18 holes on Tuesday.

LAST TIME OUT: At the season-opening Falcon Invite in Colorado Springs, Colorado, GW overcame a slow start to move seven spots up the leaderboard in rounds two and three to finish 12th. A pair of Colonials recorded top-30 finishes in the 108-man field, with Logan Lowe tying for 24th (1-under) and Christian Cichan tying for 29th (even par).

WARRIOR TRIBUTE: GW golf has furthered its longstanding relationship with the Salute Military Golf Association (SMGA) with the Warrior Tribute project, which will honor five SMGA members, one at each of the team’s fall tournaments. The team will carry a bag with the GW and SMGA logos, with a different player having an opportunity to use it each week. That event’s selected SMGA member will have their name as well as items that represent him or her, like branch insignias or military decorations, placed onto the bag before the tournament.

Last week, Christian Cichan had the honor of being the first Colonial to carry the bag.

Former GW golfer Jack Persons detailed the project for the SMGA, and wrote about Sgt. Brandon Adams, the first Warrior Golfer honored. This week, Jack Porcelli carries the bag in honor of SPC John Borbonus and SSG Jack Schumacher.
