WASHINGTON, DC -- George Washington's Brian Carroll (Crystal Lake, IL/Crystal Lake South) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Performer of the Week for men's golf, the league office has announced. It marks the sixth A-10 weekly honor for Carroll who was a three-time Rookie of the Week as a freshman and a two-time Performer of the Week as a sophomore last year.
Carroll fired a three-under-par 213 (71-70-72) to pace the Colonials at the 54-hole Northern Intercollegiate, Friday and Saturday, at the par-72, 6,888-yard University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, WI. It marked his first Top 10 finish in two outings this season and his fifth Top 10 in the last two seasons. He finished just two strokes out of the lead. GW shot a team total 894 and tied for 10th in the 13-team tournament hosted by the University of Wisconsin and included five teams from the Big Ten Conference.
Carroll's outing improved his season stroke average to 72.8 which leads the Colonials. The junior from Crystal Lake, IL, is coming off an impressive summer that included qualifying for the U.S. Amateur Championship. He also tied a course record with a final-round 64 at the Illinois Open.
GW's next competition takes place Monday Sept. 27 when it hosts the 36-hole Rehoboth Beach Invitational at Rehoboth Beach, DE.
