WASHINGTON - GW golf heads south on I-95 for its first appearance in the Golf Galaxy VCU Shootout held at Hermitage Country Club's Manakin Course on Sept. 23-24.

First-year Head Coach Chuck Scheinost will send six golfers to the Shootout, five as a team and one competing as an individual. The team will be comprised of senior Graham Lawyer, junior Jack Persons, sophomores Carlos Pena and Steve Piela, and freshman Lucas Farmer, while rookie Michael Heda will make his collegiate debut as an individual at the second event of the fall season.

Located just outside of Richmond in Manakin-Sabot, Va., Hermitage's par-72 Manakin Course measures 6,955 yards. Play will begin at 8:45 a.m. both days, with 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday.

GW is one of four Atlantic 10 teams in the field along with the host Rams, George Mason and Richmond. The Spiders are one of four teams that participated in 2013 NCAA Regionals last spring along with defending Shootout champion Virginia Tech, Iowa State and Maryland. Central Connecticut State, James Madison, Old Dominion, Radford and UNC Greensboro complete the 12-team field.

The Colonials are coming off a tie for 13th at the fall opening Adams Cup of Newport, a finish highlighted by freshman Lucas Farmer's opening round ace and eventual top-20 showing.
