WASHINGTON, DC (Sept. 27) - George Washington University golf coach Scott Allen has been selected to chair the NCAA Division I - District II Regional Advisory Committee. The four-member committee includes Pat Lyons of Iona, Maura Waters of Rutgers and Francis Vaughan of Penn. There are nine Regional Advisory Committees across the country and each committee is the liaison between the coaches in that region and the NCAA.
The most important role of the Advisory committee is to rank the teams in the District several times throughout the year and select the teams from that District that will represent that District in the NCAA tournament.
District II is composed of all of the schools with Division I golf in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and all Virginia schools except the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech. There are 52 schools in District II.
"It is an honor for me to be chosen as Chairman because the NCAA usually selects the Chairman from schools that qualify for the NCAA championship tournament often," Allen said. "As GW hasn't been since 1946, it means a lot to me that I was not chosen for political reasons. The selection is a sign of respect from my peers and I am flattered that I was recommended for the post."
