Nov. 4, 2013
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - Junior Jack Persons matched his season-low round of 73 on Monday to highlight GW golf's second day of the 54-hole Wendy's Kiawah Classic on the par-72, 7,061-yard Turtle Point Golf Course.
Persons rebounded from an early triple bogey to record four birdies, including three during a back nine 35, and card his 1-over-par 73 on Monday, equaling his 73 from the ODU/OuterBanks Intercollegiate on Oct. 22.
GW improved its team score by 11 shots to 22-over 310 on Monday and remains tied for 18th at 55-over 631, six shots behind Creighton. Defending champion and opening-round leader South Carolina gained tighter control of the tournament with a 2-under 286 on Monday to open a 19-shot cushion over Marquette.
Freshman Lucas Farmer climbed five spots with his second consecutive 4-over 76 and leads the team in a tie for 39th place at 8-over 152. Persons jumped 23 spots with his 1-over 73 into a tie for 69th at 13-over 157.
The Colonials will complete their fall 2013 season on Tuesday with the 18-hole final round of the Kiawah Classic.
