WASHINGTON -- The George Washington golf team has signed Yoo Jin Kim to a national letter-of-intent, head coach Chuck Scheinost announced Friday.

Kim, a native of Centreville, Virginia, is a four-time regional qualifier at Centreville High School and is currently playing at a +3.1 handicap.

In nine tournaments over the past summer, Kim recorded five top-20 finishes including a third-place result at the Bryan Gunter Memorial in which he shot a 69-74. He finished the summer with a scoring average just above 76.

The previous season, Kim won the Bryan Gunter Memorial and finished the 2013-14 season with 12 top-10 finishes.

"We are extremely excited to have Yoo Jin join our program," said Scheinost. "I have been really impressed with his game and maturity level over the past few years. His length off the tee combined with his course management skills always gives him the chance to post a solid score. His dedication to improving his game will blend in well with our current team as we continue to grow our program."

In addition to his ability on the golf course, Kim is an excellent student. He holds a 4.07 GPA, is a member of the National Honor Society and received the Presidents Award for Academic Excellence in 2010 and 2012. Kim has also been captain of the Centreville golf team the last three years.

"I'm really excited to join the GW program and play golf at another level," said Kim. "My family and I wanted an institution where I could play competitive Division I golf while receiving a high-level education and GW came out on top. The players have an unbreakable bond and offer a family-like atmosphere that really attracted me. I also really look forward to being coached by Coach Scheinost. His passion for the game and vision he sees will most definitely be beneficial to my game in order to become the best player I can be."
