GW Golf's Coach Scheinost Signs Palazzolo, Porcelli to Early NLIs
Pair of New Jersey's Top Players Comprise Coach Scheinost's First Signees
Nov. 25, 2013
WASHINGTON - GW golf has inked two top-rated players in the Class of 2014 in Vince Palazzolo and Jack Porcelli to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period, first-year Head Coach Chuck Scheinost announced on Monday.
Both natives of New Jersey, Palazzolo and Porcelli are among the top 130 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Junior Boys Class of 2014 rankings and should provide an immediate boost to the Colonials' roster next fall.
Colts Neck, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy
Palazzolo is currently ranked No. 129 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Junior Boys Class of 2014 Rankings. He earned First Team All-Shore Conference and Second Team All-State honors as a junior at Christian Brothers Academy in 2012-13. Palazzolo was the medalist of the Shore Conference Championship as a sophomore with a 3-under-par 69, placed in the top 10 at both the 2013 NJSIAA Non-Public A Sectional and Tournament of Champions events, and has helped CBA to back-to-back New Jersey Non-Public A state titles in 2012 and 2013. He also posted six top-10 finishes during summer 2013, highlighted by a runner-up finish at the Big I New Jersey State Qualifier en route to a 32nd-place showing (of 108) at the Trusted Choice Big I National Championship this past August. Palazzolo's resume also includes a made cut at the New Jersey State Amateur, first alternate qualifiers at U.S. Open and USGA Public Links sectional qualifiers, a runner-up finish at the 2012 Metropolitan Golf Association (MGA) Boys Championship and round of 16 at the 2013 MGA Junior.
"I chose to attend the George Washington University because of the school's great academic reputation and the ability to study in such a vibrant city as Washington, D.C.," said Palazzolo. "I am excited to play for Coach Scheinost because of his proven ability to improve golf programs. His vision for the future of GW golf is something I want to be a part of and help achieve."
Princeton, N.J./Taft School (Conn.)
Porcelli is ranked No. 80 in the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin Junior Boys Class of 2014 Rankings. The Princeton, N.J., native was an All-Founders League selection as a junior at The Taft School in Connecticut in 2013, helping the Rhinos to a 15-2 match record and finishing runner-up at the All-New England Championship. On the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) circuit, Porcelli posted a pair of top 10 finishes in 2013, including a victory at the Sugarloaf Coca-Cola Junior Championship. He also finished eight (of 110) at the Metropolitan PGA New York City Championship (72-71-143) and seventh (of 82) at the U.S. Amateur regional qualifier in Port Washington, N.Y. (72-73-145).
"I am so excited to have the opportunity to take my golf to the next level and to play for Coach Scheinost at GW," said Porcelli. "It's been a dream of mine to play Division I college golf and now it's come true. I couldn't have done this without the support of family, my teammates at Taft, and my coaches."
