Men's Rowing Concludes Weekend In SIRA Championships Grand Finals
Varsity 8, JV 8 and Freshmen 8 All Take Fourth Place In Championship Races

OAK RIDGE, TN- The George Washington men's rowing team had three boats compete in the Grand Finals of the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championships on Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, TN, taking fourth place in Varsity 8, JV 8, and Freshmen 8 on Sunday afternoon.
The Freshmen 8 launched first for the Colonials in the Novice 8 Grand Final and finished fourth out of six in 06:22.02, about five seconds behind winner Virginia. UCSD and Purdue finished ahead of the GW freshmen with Notre Dame and UNC following in fifth and sixth-place respectively.
In the JV 8 the Colonials finished behind winner Virginia, UCSD and Temple with a time of 06:05.70. Jacksonville took fifth-place with Saint Joseph's following in last.
In the Varsity 8 Grand Final, the Colonials finished six seconds behind winner Florida Tech for fourth place with a time of 06:07.44. Florida Tech, Temple and Virginia medaled with Jacksonville and UCSD following in fifth and sixth-place, respectively.
Combined with Saturday's effort of five wins and six top-two finishes, the Colonials totaled 10 top-five finishes in the SIRA Championship Regatta.
GW will return home to the Potomac River to host district-rival Georgetown and Rutgers on Saturday at 4:00 pm.
