Men's Rowing Places 20th at Head of the Charles
Oct. 20, 2008
BOSTON, MA - The George Washington Men's Rowing Team finished in 20th place overall in the Championship Eights division of the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta this past Sunday. Starting in the 32nd position, the Colonials negotiated the winding three mile race course without incident, passing Marist College (bow #31) along the way, and eventually finishing 14th among collegiate entries. "There are some incredibly fast crews in this event," said Head Coach Greg Myhr. "Not only were almost all the best collegiate teams there, but we were also competing against a host of national team crews from around the world." Several of the top university teams incurred substantial time-penalties for failure to yield, or for missing course buoys on the challenging course. "In the final results, we ended up ahead of some teams that were clearly faster than us, but drew penalties. The upshot of the race for us, though, is that our squad performed very well based on raw times - better than we have in recent years - and we're taking this as a positive sign of things to come. I was very pleased with this performance." Next up for the Colonials is the Princeton Chase Regatta on Sunday, October 26th, in Princeton, NJ. Many of the top collegiate teams in the nation will be competing. Results:
