Oct. 22, 2011
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The George Washington men's rowing team finished in fourth place out of 39 crews in the men's club eight event at the 47th annual Head of the Charles Regatta Saturday afternoon. The Colonials navigated the three-mile course on the Charles River in 15:37.44, just two seconds behind third-place Harvard (15:35.17). Brown University, of the Ivy League, finished in first place in 15:20.88, followed by Princeton (15:21.17). "We had a really solid race" said head coach Mark Davis. "A few crews got in our way a bit so we weren't able to sustain maximum speeds for the whole race but overall it was a really good day." The field featured a total of 39 teams including 21 intercollegiate crews in addition to club boats from around the country. The Head of the Charles Regatta was founded in 1965 and has evolved into the largest two-day rowing event in the world. The 47th-annual installment features more than 8,000 athletes from 19 countries competing in 61 events in front of over 300,000 spectators. The George Washington men's rowing team returns to action at the Princeton Chase, Oct. 22 in Princeton, N.J. Lineup
