WASHINGTON, DC - As part of Row For Humanity, The George Washington University men's and women's rowing teams spent a day at the DC Habitat for Humanity on February 2, 2007, building storage sheds. The program also donated over $1,000 to the local DC chapter from the annual fundraiser. Over 25 athletes and coaches spent the day in the cold volunteering their time for this great cause.
The experience shared by the athletes and coaches was positive for everyone involved. "We had a great time and were really glad we got to get out and help in the community, said women's assistant coach Sarah Dondero" "It was great to get off campus for a while and do something different that hopefully makes a difference." We hope to keep this relationship with Habitat going for a while for both our fundraiser and community service."
The women's rowing team begin their 2007 spring season on Saturday, March 17 when they travel to Morgantown, WV, to scrimmage the Mountaineers. The women's home opener takes place on March 24 against North Carolina and George Mason on the Potomac River. The men begin their season on March 24 in Mercer County, NJ, to compete against Columbia and Navy. The men's team will not compete at home until April 6-7 at their 20th Annual George Washington Invitational Regatta. Admission to all home rowing events is free of charge and spectators are welcome to view the races from Washington Harbour near the intersection of Rock Creek Parkway and Virginia Ave., NW.
