Men's Rowing's Hobert Makes US Rowing U23 National Team
Rising junior to compete at 2017 World Rowing Under 23 Championship in Plovdiv, Bulgaria
WASHINGTON - George Washington men's rowing oarsman and rising junior Bob Hobert has been selected to compete as a member of the US Rowing Under 23 National Team at this month's World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Plovdiv Bulgaria.
The annual World Rowing Under 23 Championships will run from July 19-23 at the Plovdiv Regatta Venue.
Hobert will row in the Men's Eight that was chosen out of the Under 23 Selection Camp last month in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He will be joined in the boat by collegiate rowers Dominic Santora Jr. (coxswain, Syracuse), Jovanni Stefani (Stanford), Michael Grady (Cornell), Christopher Carlson (Marist), Raymond Weeks (Cornell), James Bernard (Wisconsin), Noah Messner (Syracuse) and Finn Putnam (Cornell).
The Chicago, Illinois, native rowed in GW's Varsity 8 throughout the 2015 spring season, culminating in a final national ranking of 14th in the nation at last month's Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship.
Hobert is no stranger to international competition after being part of GW's inaugural appearance at last summer's Royal Henley Regatta. Hobert rowed as part of the Colonials' B4 that qualified into the Visitors' Challenge Cup before falling in a race against De Amstel & Proteu-Eretes, which was comprised of non-Olympian members of the Dutch National Team.
