Jeff Dixon and Kamilla Beisenova Named Community Service Student Athletes of the Month
Dixon recognized for September while Beisenova earns October honors
Congratulations to George Washington men’s rowing junior Jeff Dixon for being named GW’s Community Service Student-Athlete of the Month for September and to women’s tennis senior Kamilla Beisenova for being named GW’s Community Service Student-Athlete of the Month for October. Both student-athletes earned their respective awards by being active members in various organizations in the D.C. community.
Dixon serves on the executive board with Camp Kesem GW, a camp that supports children and teens in the DMV area through and beyond their parent’s cancer. In late August, counselors and campers reunite at two, one-week camp sessions.
“What is special is that campers prioritize this week of the summer on their calendars, and in turn the counselors pour their energy into prioritizing their camper’s well-being,” Dixon said.
Throughout the month of September, Dixon also volunteered at The Store and for the Grassroots Project, amassing a total of 125 hours dedicated to philanthropy. Dixon, however, is not the only men’s rower who is committed to community service.
“Our team is comprised of dynamic personalities and high motors, which contribute to high participation in community service efforts,” Dixon said. “My relationships with parents, classmates, and teammates have highlighted the importance of making meaningful connections while enjoying the ride.”
Kamilla Beisenova did a fantastic job of seeking philanthropic opportunities in the month of October. Beisenova committed time to Bread for the City, the National Zoo, and to the Donations for the Hurricane Disaster Relief. She also regularly volunteers at the GW Hospital and Miriam’s Kitchen. In total, Beisenova volunteered for 72 hours during the month of October.
“Giving back to the community is a great way to make a positive impact in someone’s life,” Beisenova said. “I really enjoy volunteering and it is nice to see the positive effect that my actions can have on others.”
Similar to Dixon, Beisenova not only enjoys giving back to the community on her own, she enjoys taking on community service projects as a team with the rest of the women’s tennis squad.
“Community service is important to us because it gives us a chance to contribute to the community as a team,” said Beisenova. “Everyone tries to do as much community service as they can during the year and help out where they can. It’s also a great chance for all of us to hang out and give back to the community together.”
Congratulations to both Dixon and Beisenova for setting a positive example in the GW community. Raise High!
