FAIRFAX, VA - Senior Hermann Trophy candidate Andy Stadler and sophomore Yoni Berhanu tallied second-half goals and freshman goalkeeper Brendan Lafferty recorded his first career shutout to lead the George Washington men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Howard in its DC College Cup finale at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, VA, Saturday evening.

GW defeated Howard (0-2-0) for the sixth consecutive time in the DC Cup to improve to 1-1-0 overall on the season. The Colonials open their Mount Vernon home schedule Tuesday at 4:00 pm against the University of the District of Columbia (UDC).

Stadler moved into solo 10th all-time in career points at GW with his first goal of the season in the 64th minute. Stadler slotted a shot into the right corner past Bison goalkeeper Victor Thomas off a free kick to up his career point total to 59 (23g/13a) and split from Orville Reynolds ('87) on the all-time list.

Berhanu, the 2008 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, added an insurance tally in the 83rd minute on a breakaway down the left sideline.

Lafferty made four saves - two in each half - in his first collegiate start for the shutout victory. Thomas made 11 saves for the Bison.

GW finished with a 26-11 advantage in shots, 13-4 edge in shots on goal and 10-3 cushion in corner kicks.
