Men's Soccer Blanked by No. 7 Santa Clara, 6-0

Sept. 21, 2003

Box Score

SANTA CLARA, CA - George Washington fell to seventh-ranked Santa Clara, 6-0, as the outstanding defense of the Broncos did not allow the Colonials a single shot on the match.

GW (1-6-0) faced an SCU (6-0-2) team that had only allowed a single goal on the season, dating back to a match against then No. 4 SMU, a streak that has stretched over a span of 447:46.

The Broncos out-shot the Colonials 21-0, as GW couldn't solve SCU's formidable defensive schemes. The Broncos, however, seemed to have little trouble against the GW, and scored four first half goals and added two second half scores.

In an odd twist, sophomore goalkeeper Steve Anderson and junior forward Rob Kirchner were named to the Adidas Classic All-Tournament Team, despite not seeing a single minute of play in either match.

The Colonials return to host Towson on Saturday, September 27, at the Mount Vernon Field in a 1:00 pm match.
