WASHINGTON, DC - Goals from sophomore Thomas Stuber (Waukesha, WI/Waukesha West) and senior Ben Mortimer (Leighton Buzzard, England / Cedars Upper) staked the George Washington University men's soccer team (3-0-2) to 2-1 first half lead but Rider University (0-5-2) rallied for a score in the 76th minute to tie the game, as the teams ended up playing to a 2-2 draw Saturday afternoon at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex.

The Broncs' game-tying goal came from former Colonial Donnie Giovacchini (1), a junior who transferred out of GW following his freshman year.

Rider took an early 1-0 advantage when senior Sandro DeCristofaro dribbled in from 15-yards out and scored unassisted at the 12:22 mark.

GW tied the game 1-1 when Mortimer successfully executed a penalty kick (2) in the 27th minute.

A little over seven minutes later, seniors Steve Brown (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) and Trevor Martin (Chevy Chase, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) set-up Stuber (1) for his first career goal, giving the Colonials a 2-1 lead that they took into halftime.

But Giovacchini converted a pass from sophomore Michael Colozzi at the 76:17 mark to even the contest for the Broncs at 2-2.

GW almost produced the game-winner twice in double overtime as sophomore Joachim Walker (Odenton, MD/Mount St. Joseph) and junior Arturo Pedroso (Coral Gables, FL/Ransom Everglades School/Holy Cross) each had strong looks at the goal but came up empty.

Rider goalkeeper Daniel Riverso recorded 11 saves in the match as the Colonials out-shot Rider 23-10, overall, and 5-1 in the two overtime periods.

The Colonials next match is in Bethlehem, PA, when they face Lehigh University Wednesday at 7:00 PM.

GW returns to Mount Vernon Saturday, Oct. 1, to face Virginia Tech at 2:00 PM.
