CINCINNATI, OH - George Washington redshirt senior goalkeeper Matt Scheer made three saves to post his third shutout of the season and help the Colonials' men's soccer team to a scoreless draw at Xavier in both teams' Atlantic 10 Conference opener Friday evening.

GW, the fifth ranked team in the latest NSCAA Middle Atlantic regional rankings, picked up its first point of the conference season (0-0-1) and moved to 4-3-2 overall with the draw. The Colonials complete their Ohio road trip Sunday at Dayton. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.

The physical match saw 41 fouls and four yellow cards between the two teams. GW outshot Xavier 17-11, including 5-1 in the two 10-minute overtime periods. The Colonials also held a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.

Junior Andy Stadler, who remains the nation's leading goal scorer at 1.13 goals per game, led GW with five shots. Junior Erick Perez-Segnini added four shots, two of which reached target.

Xavier (1-7-2, 0-0-1 A-10) managed to put just three of its 11 shots on goal. Musketeers goalkeeper Adam Sokolowski made five saves.

Scheer lowered his season goals-against average to 0.97 with the clean sheet, GW's fourth team shutout of the season.
