Men's Soccer Tops Xavier, 2-0

Oct. 19, 2003

Box Score

CINCINNATI, OH - George Washington men's soccer got back on the winning track behind two goals from senior forward Arnar Johannsson, toppling the Xavier Musketeers, 2-0 at the Xavier Soccer Complex.

GW (5-9-0, 3-3-0) got on the board in the 19th minute of play when Johannsson converted a penalty kick to give the Colonials a 1-0 edge. The two squads would battle back and forth for the next sixty minutes of regulation before GW would add an insurance score in the late stages of the match.

Johannsson took a pass from freshman forward Joe Siegel who fed the senior forward on the left side of the box. Johannsson rocketed a shot past the keeper to give GW a 2-0 lead.

Sophomore keeper Derek Biss had an outstanding day between the pipes, making eight saves while facing 15 shots on the day. Biss made some timely saves late in the match during a stretch that saw the Musketeers attempt six corner kicks in the final five minutes of play.

GW travels to Philadelphia, PA to face Saint Joseph's on Friday, October 24, in a 7:00 pm match.
