Oct. 23, 2005

Final Stats

KINGSTON, RI - The University of Rhode Island (7-7-1, 3-3-0 A-10) broke a scoreless game in the 72nd minute with a goal that sent George Washington University (4-7-3, 1-4-1 A-10) to a 1-0 Atlantic 10 defeat Sunday afternoon at the URI Soccer Complex.

Junior Jeffrey Gonsalves tallied the Rams' lone goal when he got behind GW's defense and converted a feed from junior Lukasz Tumicz from 15-yards out at the 71:02 mark. The goal was Gonsalves' team leading 10th of the season.

The Colonials' offense was held in check as not a single starter recorded a shot in the game.

Junior Arturo Pedroso (Coral Gables, FL/Ransom Everglades School/Holy Cross) and sophomore Abimbola Pedro (Lagos, Nigeria/King's College Lagos) both came off the bench and produced two shots each, accounting for all four of GW's shots in the game.

Rams' goalkeeper Dean Ruddy made two saves while recording the shutout.

Sophomore Greg Yahr (Waukesha, WI/Waukesha West) got the start in net for GW and made three saves.

The Colonials final three games of the regular season will be played at home with their next match scheduled for Friday, Oct. 28, against Saint Louis. Game time is 3:00 PM.
