Men's Soccer Clipped by Dayton, 2-1

WASHINGTON, DC - Senior Erick Perez-Segnini equalized in the 59th minute, but Dayton's Alex Torda netted the game-winning goal less than two minutes later to hand the George Washington men's soccer team a 2-1 loss in a key Atlantic 10 Conference match at Mount Vernon Field Sunday afternoon.
The loss drops GW (8-7-0, 2-4-0) into a tie for ninth place in the A-10 standings with three league matches remaining. The Colonials will look to rebound in their next outing on Halloween Saturday, Oct. 31, against Richmond at Mount Vernon. Kick off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
It was GW's first loss in six matches at Mount Vernon this season and just its 11th defeat against an A-10 opponent in the facility's nine-year history (29-11-2). The defending A-10 champion Flyers remain in second in the league standings at 4-1-0 in conference play and 9-4-1 overall.
Dayton, which had an eight-match win streak snapped at Richmond Friday, applied pressure early and took a 1-0 lead out of a corner kick set piece in the sixth minute. Zach Weiss' corner found Jack Pearson on the far post and Pearson headed back in front of net to Evan McCreary for a header goal.
The Flyers continued to attack, finishing with an 11-3 shot advantage in the first half, but couldn't convert any attempts to lead 1-0 at halftime.
GW controlled play to begin the second half and eventually got the equalizer at the 58:10 mark on Perez-Segnini's fourth goal of the year. Linking with senior Nikolay Aleksandrov and junior Marcus Ranney down the left wing, Perez-Segnini ran onto the ball 25 yards away and beat several defenders into the box before unleashing a blast from 12 yards away past Dayton goalkeeper Tyler Picard. The goal was just the second allowed by Dayton in more than 470 minutes of play and third in its last eight matches.

The tie score was short-lived, however, as Torda collected a pass from Isaac Kissi in the box and shed a defender at the penalty spot before depositing a low shot past redshirt goalkeeper Erik Haug just 1:51 later for the game-winner.
Haug, who finished with four saves on 16 shots faced, kept GW within a goal with a sprawling stop on Peter Chilemena's rebound attempt in the 74th minute, but the Colonials failed to test Picard on any of their five second-half shots in the loss. Picard made two stops on eight shots faced.
