Men's Soccer Edged in Overtime Versus La Salle, 2-1
Johannsson Scores GW's Lone Goal in Loss
Oct. 27, 2002
PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Colonials had their five-game winning-streak snapped La Salle, as the Explorers scored an overtime goal to take the 2-1 victory.
GW (9-7-0, 5-3) struck first when junior forward Arnar Johannsson put home a short pass in the box from senior midfielder Michael Goldman at the 12:07 mark. Senior Matthew Osborne was also credited with an assist on the play.
La Salle (7-8-1, 5-3) fought back, tying the game in the 33rd minute when La Salle's Tom Kenney headed a shot past GW keeper Eric Lund. The goal ended Lund's scoreless streak of 330 minutes over the past four matches.
The two teams battled to a stalemate in the second half, ending regulation in a 1-1 tie. La Salle capitalized in the 97th minute when the Explorers' Josh France put home a free kick off a foul from a tough angle to give LU the 2-1 overtime victory.
The Colonials return home for a key three-game home stand to close out the regular season. GW faces Massachusetts in the first of the three matches on Friday, November 1, in a 2:00 p.m. game at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex.
