Freshman Michael Rollings' Two Goals Gives GW 2-0 Win Over Saint Louis

Oct. 28, 2005

Final Stats

WASHINGTON, DC - Needing a victory to remain in the hunt for an Atlantic 10 Tournament bid, the George Washington University men's soccer team (5-7-3, 2-4-1 A-10) used two goals from freshman Michael Rollings (Olney, MD/Sherwood) (3,4) to hand first place Saint Louis University (8-5-1, 5-1-0 A-10) its first conference loss of the year, 2-0, Friday afternoon at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex.

After playing a scoreless first half, the Colonials broke through at the 52:31 mark when Rollings was set up by sophomore Abimbola Pedro (Lagos, Nigeria/King's College Lagos) and senior Steve Brown (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) with a strong look 5-yards in front of the Billikens' net that he knocked in for a goal.

Rollings, the reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week, made it 2-0 20 minutes later when he dribbled in from 25-yards out to score his second goal unassisted.

SLU could not capitalize in the first half when it squandered three strong scoring opportunities.

The Billikens took eight shots, overall, two on goal, with freshman Larry Geraghty accounting for three of them.

GW senior goalkeeper Derek Biss (Pittsfield, MA/St. Joseph's/Northfield Mt. Hermon) stopped both SLU shots he faced while posting his second shutout of the season.

Billikens' keeper Jeff Sackman made three saves and stopped two shots in the defeat.

The Colonials next face 20th-ranked Duquesne, who lost to SLU last week, on Sunday at Mount Vernon. Game time is 1:00 pm.
