WASHINGTON, DC (Feb. 2, 2002) George Washington men's soccer head coach George Lidster announced today the signing of two strong recruits for the upcoming 2002 season. All America midfielder Steve Brown (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland HS) and three-time Florida All State team member forward Frank Ambrosio, Jr. (Orlando, FL/Bishop Moore Catholic HS) will don the Buff and Blue for the Colonials next year.
A high school All American at midfield, Brown was a four-year starter for North Rockland, leading the team in scoring two of his four seasons and garnering All League recognition each year. Brown was also a member of the F.C. Westchester Club team which won three-straight state championships and the 2000 United States Youth U-16 National Championship.
Ambrosio adds an offensive threat to the Colonials' roster that is rarely seen at the high school level. Ambrosio has scored 109 career goals to date, adding 85 assists in his four-year career as a starter for Bishop Moore High School in Orlando, FL. Ambrosio earned a spot on the 2001 All Florida State Team and was the Orange County Player of the Year after scoring 33 goals and notching 17 assists.
The Colonials begin their 2002 campaign with a home exhibition game Saturday, August 24, versus University of Maryland, Baltimore County in a 1:00 p.m. match at the GW Mount Vernon Athletic Complex.
