Bryan Davis Named Men's Soccer Head Coach at Wright State

May 1, 2009

DAYTON, OH - Bryan Davis, assistant coach for the George Washington men's soccer program the past four seasons, has been named head coach at Wright State University, Raiders' Director of Athletics Bob Grant announced Friday afternoon.

Davis, who spent the 2005 season as a volunteer assistant for GW before being promoted to full-time assistant from 2006-08, becomes the ninth men's soccer head coach in the 36-year history of the WSU program.

"Bryan has been an integral part of our program the past four years," said George Lidster, who completed his 21st year as GW head coach in 2008. "He has been heavily involved in all phases of the team, especially recruiting, and thoroughly deserves this opportunity. Everyone involved with the GW men's soccer program wishes him the best." Lidster will begin a search for Davis' replacement immediately.

During his four years, Davis helped the Colonials to a 28-31-11 overall record and back-to-back DC College Cup titles in 2007 and 2008. He also was instrumental in landing a 2008 recruiting class ranked 27th-best in the nation according to College Soccer News, highlighted by this season's Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year Yoni Berhanu.

Davis is the second GW assistant in the past three years to land a head coaching position after former associate head coach Jake Ouimet was named head coach at Duquesne in 2006.

Wright State posted a 6-14-1 overall record, 3-4-1 conference mark and advanced to the second round of the Horizon League Championship in 2008.
