Men's Soccer Adds 10 Recruits for 2002 Season

June 12, 2002

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington men's soccer head coach George Lidster announced today the commitments of 10 recruits for the upcoming 2002 season.

Eight additional players join a pair of early-signees, midfielders Steve Brown (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) and Frank Ambrosio (Orlando, FL/Bishop Moore Catholic HS), as this year's class will add to the already talented returning squad.

All-State forward Adam Smith (Pueblo, CO/East HS) will bolster GW's attack up front, while the midfield will be solidified by a pair of highly regarded local players. Two-time All-Met selection Trevor Martin (Chevy Chase, MD/Bethesda Chevy Chase) and US Men's National Deaf Team member Michael Higgins (Potomac, MD/Model Secondary School) will help the Colonials next season. All-Western Massachusetts team member and New England Prep School All-Star Andre Chapman (Wilbraham, MA/Northfield Mt. Hermon) and Florida product Rodolfo Zubiate (Plantation, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas) round out the six midfielders added to the roster and will contribute immediately.

The Colonials have three new goalkeepers competing for the position. Two-time Massachusetts All-State selection Derek Biss (Pittsfield, MA/Northfield Mt. Hermon), New Hampshire two-time All-State team selection Steven Anderson (Sunapee, NH/The Hill School) and local product Jon Levine (Baltimore, MD/Friends School) will all make strong bids to see playing time this season.

GW begins its 2002 regular season versus cross-town rival Georgetown in the DC Classic, on Friday, August 30, in a 12:00 p.m. match.
