GW Places Three on Men's Soccer Preseason All-Conference Teams
July 7, 2005 PHILADELPHIA, PA - Three GW men's soccer student-athletes earned preseason all-conference honors in a vote by the league's coaches on July 6. Seniors Ben Mortimer and Frank Ambrosio were named to the 2005 Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Preseason All-Conference Team, while freshman Michael Rollings was picked to the league's preseason all-rookie squad. Mortimer, a back, was an Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team performer and a third-team all-region selection last season. He started all 23 matches for the Colonials and contributed five goals. From his sweeper spot, Mortimer anchored a GW defense that posted seven shutouts and he was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Championship team after helping lead the Colonials to the conference title. From his forward spot, Mortimer's classmate Frank Ambrosio paced GW with seven goals and a total of 17 points in 2004. He notched a season-best two scores against Dayton on Oct. 24, 2004 and netted the Colonials' only goal in their 1-0 victory over North Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship. Rollings, also a forward, was the Washington Post's 2004 Fall Player of the Year. He helped lead Sherwood High School to the Maryland 4A State Championship last year, his senior season. Rollings scored 22 goals and handed out eight assists for the Warriors last season and finished his scholastic career with 51 goals and 22 assists. League newcomer Saint Louis led all schools with three players on the preseason all-conference unit. GW, Temple, and Duquesne were the other schools with multiple selections. The Bilikens and fellow conference newcomer Charlotte were the only teams to place more than one player on the preseason all-rookie squad. The Colonials will open the 2005 campaign against American University in the DC College Cup on Sept. 2. 2005 Atlantic 10 Preseason Men's Soccer Team
