Three Colonials Named to 2002 Atlantic 10 Preseason Men's Soccer Team

Aug. 1, 2002

WASHINGTON, DC - The Atlantic 10 released the 2001 Preseason men's soccer All-Conference team, as voted by the conference coaches, naming three Colonials to the squad.

Senior midfielder Michael Goldman (Bethesda, MD/Chevy Chase HS) was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team after a strong season patrolling the pitch for the Colonials. Goldman scored two goals and notched seven assists. Goldman ranks eighth in GW history in career assists entering the 2002 season.

High school All-American midfielder Steve Brown (Thiells, NY/North Rockland HS) and Florida All-State team member forward Frank Ambrosio (Orlando, FL/Bishop Moore Catholic HS) were voted to the 2002 Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Rookie Team.

Brown was a four-year starter for North Rockland High School, leading the team in scoring two of his four seasons and garnering All League recognition each year. Brown was also a member of the ENYYSA Westchester Soccer Club team which won three-straight state championships and the 2000 United States Youth BU-16 National Championship.

Ambrosio adds an offensive punch to the Colonials' roster that is rarely seen on the high school level. Ambrosio scored 106 career goals, adding 83 assists in his four-year career as a starter for Bishop Moore High School in Orlando, FL. Ambrosio earned a spot on the 2001 All Florida State Team and was the Orange County Player of the Year after scoring 33 goals and notching 17 assists.

The Colonials begin the 2002 regular season on Friday, August 1, versus crosstown rival Georgetown in the opening game of the DC Classic at 12:00 p.m.
