WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's soccer team kicked off its 2014 campaign with its first practice on Wednesday morning at the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.

With the sun shining and temperatures a bit cooler than a typical August day in D.C., the Colonials returned to the pitch for their third season under Head Coach Craig Jones, working on possession activities and splitting up into units by position before ending the session with a full-squad scrimmage.

"It was good to see the guys back on the field," said Coach Jones. "I thought the guys looked sharp, so I'm very, very happy and I'm looking forward to the next one."

GW returns 21 letterwinners and seven starters from last season's squad while welcoming seven newcomers to the roster.

The Colonials will play three exhibition games in August, beginning on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Lehigh. GW will also visit nearby Catholic on Tuesday, Aug. 19 at 4 p.m. before concluding the preseason schedule at home against James Madison on Saturday, Aug. 23 at 4 p.m.

The Colonials open the regular season on Friday, Aug. 29, at American in the annual Kuykenstrong D.C. College Cup.
