Preseason Training Underway for GW Men's Soccer
Colonials Return to Pitch Under Second-Year Head Coach Craig Jones
Aug 14, 2013
WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's soccer team kicked off its 2013 campaign with its first practice on Wednesday morning at the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.
The Colonials will practice twice a day leading up to their exhibition opener at Duke on Sunday, Aug. 18, at 1 p.m. Wednesday's first session included conditioning testing and a Buff & Blue scrimmage that pitted the newcomers against the returning players.
"For the first session, the key thing was everybody came through injury-free, so that's always a bonus," said second-year Head Coach Craig Jones. "The new guys came on this field for the first time and did very well and the returners came back in great shape. Overall we're very happy with the first session."
GW returns 15 letterwinners and eight starters from last season's squad while welcoming 10 newcomers to the roster.
The Colonials will play three exhibition games in August. Following Sunday's match at Duke, GW will host Montgomery College on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 4 p.m. before concluding the preseason schedule at James Madison on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 5 p.m.
GW opens the regular season on Friday, Aug. 30, against American in the annual D.C. College Cup hosted by George Mason University.
