Men's Soccer's Berhanu Named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week

Sept. 2, 2008

PHILADELPHIA, PA - George Washington men's soccer freshman Yoni Berhanu was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. Berhanu was named to the DC College Cup All-Tournament Team after totaling five points in his first two collegiate matches last weekend.

Berhanu recorded his first collegiate point in assisting junior Andy Stadler's equalizing goal in Friday's 1-1 draw against George Mason. Berhanu scored GW's first two goals of the second half in Sunday's 8-0 rout of Howard. GW captured its second straight DC College Cup title, earning the tie-breaker over George Mason based on goal differential.

Berhanu was joined by Stadler, redshirt senior goalkeeper Matt Scheer and freshman Brice Carr on the DC College Cup All-Tournament Team. Berhanu and Carr were preseason A-10 All-Rookie Team selections and both are among College Soccer News' "100 Freshmen to Keep an Eye on in 2008."

GW (1-0-1) returns to action Friday, Sept. 5, at Longwood. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
