Men's Soccer Loses Heartbreaker, 2-1

WASHINGTON, D.C. Kenny Owens scored his second goal of the game on a penalty kick in the second overtime to lift Georgetown over GW, 2-1, in the championship game of the D.C. Classic this afternoon at Harbin Field.

Fridrik Omarsson gave GW the lead with a blast from about 30 yards out in the 32nd minute of the game and it looked like that goal would be enough until Owens scored his first goal in the 82nd minute off of a pass from Greg Freeburg. Owens was able to gain control of the ball after a scramble in front of the net and he made the most of his opportunity by putting the ball past GW goalkeeper, Nick Parypinski.

Matthew Osborne, Michael Goldman (Bethesda/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) and Jeff Greenspan made the all tournament team for GW. Owens was joined on the all tournament team by Georgetown teammates Peter Finn, Jeff Boehling and Michael Gross, who was also named MVP of the DC Classic.

GW has off until Friday when they will travel south to take on VMI at 3:00 p.m.
