Colonials Look for Second Win in a Row

Sept. 9, 2004

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington men's soccer team goes in search of its second victory when it plays at Radford on Saturday, September 11 at 7:00 p.m. The Colonials are coming off a, 5-0, triumph versus Howard in the DC College Cup on September 6.

The Colonials are 1-1 this season, having lost to Georgetown, 1-0, on September 4, before rebounding to defeat the Bison two days later. GW's five goals against Howard is the most since they tallied five against Saint Joseph's in a, 5-1, triumph versus the Hawks on October 18, 2002.

Junior Ben Mortimer and sophomore Joseph Siegel both scored goals in the GW's win against Howard and earned DC College Cup All-Tournament recognition for their performances in the event. Junior Andre Chapman leads GW with three points (one goal, one assist). Junior goalkeeper Derek Biss has started the first two games in net for and recorded his first victory of the campaign against the Bison. He owns a 0.50 goals-against average through the first two matches.

Radford is unbeaten in its first two matches, having defeated Elon, 3-0, in its season-opener on September 1 and scoring a tie, 1-1, against Charlotte on September 4. The Highlanders have outshot their opponents by a 27-12 margin.

Fernando Ramos has started both contests for Radford and leads the squad with three points (one goal, one assist). Goalkeeper Omar Zinoveev has played all 200 minutes in net and sports a .889 save percentage.

The Colonials have won the last three meetings with Radford, including a, 4-2, triumph versus the Highlanders last season. In that match, Chapman got GW on the scoreboard early, notching a goal in the fourth minute. It was the first tally of his career.
