GW Soccer Hosts Annual Alumni Weekend
Sept. 10, 2008
WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington men's and women's soccer programs will welcome many former players during their annual Soccer Alumni Weekend, beginning with Friday's women's match against Delaware State at 4:00 pm. The majority of the Soccer Alumni Weekend events will take place Saturday in conjunction with the GW men's soccer team's (1-1-1) match against 23rd-ranked Loyola (MD) at 3:00 pm. The festivities kick-off at 10:30 am with the Soccer Alumni match at Mount Vernon Field, followed by a barbeque luncheon at Ames Pub from 12:00-2:00 pm, and the Soccer Alumni reception at State Plaza Hotel on the Foggy Bottom campus beginning at 6:30 pm. Loyola (MD), the defending MAAC champion and 2007 NCAA Tournament participant, is the third ranked opponent to visit Mount Vernon Field since the facility opened in 2001. GW, which is 0-2 against ranked foes at Mount Vernon, dropped a 3-2 decision to Loyola (MD) in Baltimore last September. The Colonials were one of only three teams to score at least two goals against the Greyhounds, who finished 19-3-1 overall, last season. The GW women's soccer team (1-4-0) will host a tailgate at Mount Vernon following its match against Delaware State Friday. The women also host District rival Howard at Mount Vernon Field Sunday at 1:00 pm. The Colonials have never faced the Hornets and are 4-0-0 all-time against the Bison, including an 8-0 victory in the teams' last meeting in Sept. 2006. The GW women also are hosting a fundraising lunch and dinner at Tonic Restaurant (2036 G St., NW) on Thursday, Sept. 11.
