WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington men's soccer juniors Thomas Stuber and Greg McKay have been named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District II Second Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
The duo comprised half of GW's starting midfield and combined for 21 of the teams' 57 total points this season. Stuber, who greatly benefited from a mid-season switch from forward to midfield, led the Colonials and finished seventh in the A-10 with a single-season career-high 15 points (6g/3a). A psychology major, Stuber's six goals were also a career best and tied for the second most in the conference this fall. Stuber has been named to the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, which recognizes student-athletes from around the league who post a 3.5 GPA or higher, in three of his four semesters at GW.
McKay, a history major, tied for third on the team with six points on two goals and two assists. He posted a season-high three points in GW's 2-0 shutout of Howard on Aug. 27, to earn DC College Cup All-Tournament Team honors for the second straight year. McKay has been on the league's Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of his four semesters at GW.
McKay and Stuber are the first GW men's soccer players to receive the Academic All-District award since Matt Osborne was chosen to the first team en route to being named Verizon's Academic All-America Team Member of the Year in 2002. CoSIDA District II is comprised of Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
