Lidster Shoots for Career Win No. 200 in Final GW Men's Soccer Home Matches This Weekend
Nov. 2, 2011
Lidster nears end of long tenure as George Washington University soccer coach After 24 seasons and a program-record victories total, George Lidster will coach his final two home matches this weekend as the George Washington men's soccer team hosts St. Bonaventure and Duquesne this Friday and Sunday, respectively. Coach Lidster announced his retirement in August effective the conclusion of the 2011 season following a 24-year career at GW and a three-decade span as a player and coach in the DC metro area. At 7-6-2 overall and 5-2-0 in league play so far this season, GW is in solid position to earn a spot in this fall's Atlantic 10 Championship. A pair of victories this weekend would cement one of the tourney's six bids, as well as give Coach Lidster a milestone 200 wins for his career. He enters this weekend's contests with a 198-196-51 career mark during his 24 years as manager, highlighted by Atlantic 10 Championships in 2002 and 2004 and a trio of NCAA Tournament appearances. GWsports.com caught up with Coach Lidster earlier this fall to discuss GW men's soccer, his career, and his one-of-a-kind hairstyle.
