Three GW Men's Soccer Players Garner A-10 Honors

Nov. 9, 2005

PHILADELPHIA, PA - George Washington University men's soccer player Ben Mortimer (Leighton Buzzard, England/Cedars Upper) was named Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team, Abimbola Pedro (Lagos, Nigeria/King's College Lagos) was named All-Conference Honorable Mention and Michael Rollings (Olney, MD/Sherwood) was named to the All-Rookie Team, the conference announced Wednesday night.

Mortimer, a senior, served as a team captain and anchored a Colonials' defense that allowed just 1.37 goals-a-game and posted three shutouts. He also scored two goals and notched an assist.

Mortimer was a first-team selection last year and a member of the A-10's All-Championship Team.

In just eight starts and appearing in 14 games, overall, in his first collegiate season, Pedro, a sophomore, led GW in points (11) and was second on the team in goals (4).

Rollings, a freshman, was a two-time A-10 Rookie of the Week recipient in 2005. He stood second on the team in goals (4) and recorded two of GW's six game-winning goals.

Saint Louis junior John DiRaimondo and junior goalkeeper Zach Varga of Duquesne were named Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively.

Eric Sweetin of Saint Louis was named Rookie of the Year and Duquesne's Wade Jean was selected as Coach of the Year.

In a vote of the A-10's sports information directors, Noah Salsi of Duquesne earned his second straight Student-Athlete of the Year award.
