Nov. 11, 2003
PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Atlantic 10 Conference named sophomore Frank Ambrosio (Orlando, FL/Bishop Moore Catholic) Player of the Week after the midfielder scored George Washington's lone goal in a 1-1 tie with Richmond on Saturday, November, 8.
With the tie, GW (7-10-2, 5-4-2) finished the regular season with 17 points in conference play (three points per win, one point per tie) edging Massachusetts who lost to Rhode Island on Friday, November 7, to finish the season with a 5-5-1 conference record for 16 total points.
Ambrosio scored when UR's goalkeeper Mike Nwaneri made a save off a shot from senior Arnar Johannsson. Ambrosio put the loose ball into the back of the net to give GW the one-goal advantage in the 79th minute of play. UR would tie the game just six minutes later, and the match would end in a double-overtime tie.
The goal was Ambrosio's fifth score of the year, as the midfielder has been one of the most productive members of the team, ranking second in total points with 12 (five goals, two assists).
The Colonials, who will enter the tournament as the sixth seed, will play in Game 1 of the Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Championship against the No. 3 seed Temple at First Market Stadium on the University of Richmond campus in a 5:30 pm match.
