Colonials of the Week - GW Men's Soccer Team and Head Coach George Lidster
Nov. 15, 2011 The George Washington Men's Soccer Team and Head Coach George Lidster are the joint Colonials of the Week for the week of Nov. 7-14. GW made an incredible late-season run to earn a share of the Atlantic 10 Conference's regular-season title and advance to the league's title match to cap the successful 24-year tenure of head coach George Lidster. The Colonials posted a 10-6-3 final record in 2011, a remarkable 8-game turnaround from the previous season, and finished the campaign with a perfect 6-0 mark at Mount Vernon Field, posting five shutouts and outscoring their opponents by a total of 15-2 at their home facility. GW defeated La Salle, 2-1, in double overtime in the A-10 semifinals and, despite coming up short in penalty kicks, battled Xavier to a 1-1 draw in the A-10 Championship match to finish the season unbeaten over its final seven matches (6-0-1). The Colonials also went 8-2-1 over their final 11 matches to secure Coach Lidster's 200th career victory. The winningest coach in GW men's soccer history, Coach Lidster was voted the A-10's Coach of the Year this fall for the third time in his 24 seasons and concludes his career with a 201-196-52 overall record. 2011 GW Men's Soccer Team and Coaching Staff Head Coach: George Lidster
