Men's Soccer's Lawal Earns All-Region Honors
Senior defender recognized by United Soccer Coaches
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Christian Lawal of George Washington has been named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region Second Team.
Lawal earns the honor after closing a decorated collegiate career with a stellar senior season. The GW captain made the transition from forward to center back this fall and anchored the defense for a squad that posted a 9-7-2 record and earned a return to the Atlantic 10 Championship with a 6-2 mark in conference play. He started every game in his final season with the Colonials, logging 1,548 minutes, most among Buff and Blue field players.
Lawal landed a spot on the All-Atlantic 10 First Team after helping GW's defense post a 1.44 goals against average with six shutouts, including four in conference play. The veteran defender scored his 11th career goal in the regular season finale victory at Saint Joseph's on Oct. 28 and also added three assists this season to tie for the team lead. He registered 30 career points in 67 games as a Colonial.
It's the first all-region selection for Lawal, who was among 13 A-10 honorees on three teams selected by United Soccer Coaches. This marks the third consecutive year a Colonial made the list with Garrett Heine honored in 2016 and Heine and Tobi Adewole recognized in 2015.
