Jake Ouimet is in his first year as Assistant Coach for the George Washington University men's soccer program. Ouimet brings a wealth of coaching, playing and business experience to the GW program, and will assist Head Coach George Lidster in all facets of the program, including on-the-field coaching, recruiting and team administration.
"Jake brings a lot to the program, and we're very happy to have him join us," said Lidster. "Jake is keen to begin a college coaching career, and his experience as a very successful player at both the collegiate and professional levels, coupled with his strong business background, should serve us well. He is quite familiar with soccer on the East coast, and especially Northern Virginia, which will be an asset to our recruiting efforts."
Ouimet (wa-METT) joins the Colonials from sporting goods manufacturer Kappa USA, where he worked as a customer service representative since 1998. Among Ouimet's responsibilities at Kappa was coordinating the company's relationship with Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids, who are sponsored by Kappa.
Ouimet was a standout player at the University of Maine from from 1992-1996, and was the 1992 North Atlantic Conference Rookie-of-the-Year. Ouimet holds the UM records for career goals,and was also an All-North Atlantic Conference selection and a three-time All-New England selection. Ouimet graduated from Maine in 1996 with a degree in Business Administration.
After graduating from Maine, Ouimet worked for a year as an Account Executive with Pitney Bowes Corporation in Alexandria, Virginia.
Ouimet began his coaching career in 1997 as an assistant with the boys varsity team at W.T. Woodson High School in Fairfax, Virginia, where he coached for two seasons. While he was working with the Woodson program, Ouimet was also a clinician and trainer with American Soccer, Inc., in Fairfax. He also trained u-12 and u-10 boys and girls club team.
Ouimet played professional soccer with the Worcester Wildfire in the A-League from 1997-98, leading the Wildfire in points and scoring. He was named to the A-League Team-of-the-Week on July 20, 1997. He also was an instructor with the Crusader's Pro Soccer Academy. Ouimet played for the Cape Cod Crusaders of the USISL from 1998-99, where he led the team in points and scoring. He was named the USISL Player-of-the-Week on July 8, 1998.
Ouimet resides in Centreville, Virginia, with his wife Rose, and daughter Olivia.
