GW Dominates Fordham In 1-0 Win

WASHINGTON, DC (Oct. 1, 1999) -- Sophomore forward Jason Holloway netted his team-high sixth goal of the season to lead George Washington to a 1-0 victory over Fordham this afternoon in Atlantic 10 Conference men's soccer action at South Riding Field.

GW grabbed the lead in the 17th minute when sophomore midfielder Michael Goldman picked up a loose ball in GW's defensive third of the field, dribbled approximately 50 yards through a porous Fordham defense, and slipped a pass beyond the final two defenders to Holloway at the top of the Fordham box. Holloway slid a clinical finish from 15 yards past onrushing Fordham goalkeeper Sean Arrajj. The assist was Goldman's sixth of the season, which leads the South Atlantic region.

Holloway's strike would prove to be all GW needed as the Colonials pounded Fordham all afternoon, outshooting the Rams 20-6 for the match, 10-2 in the second half. Senior midielder Marty Williams was particularly active, recording six shots after taking a total of five in GW's seven previous matches. Sophomore defensive midfielder Gregg Friedman tallied four shots, and Goldman had three.

Arrajj recorded five saves for Fordham, while GW keeper Michael Jelencovich recorded three. GW's defense in front of Jelencovich was solid as posted GW's first shutout of the season.

GW returns to action Sunday when La Salle visits for a 2:00 pm match.
