No. 17 GW Men's Squash Falls to No. 12 St. Lawrence, 7-2

WASHINGTON - The 17th-ranked George Washington men's squash team hosted its first spring contest at the Matthew J. Grossman Squash Courts on Thursday, but fell to visiting No. 12 St. Lawrence, 7-2.

GW (7-7) got two wins at the top of the ladder from juniors Islam El-Fiky and Omar Sobhy, but a trio of five-set losses ultimately helped St. Lawrence prevail.

Both El-Fiky and Sobhy had little trouble at the top of the ladder. El-Fiky rattled off an 11-8, 11-5, 11-4 victory over Vir Seth at the No. 1 position for his team leading 11th victory of the season.

Sobhy notched his 10th win of the year with an 11-3, 11-5, 11-3 victory over Kyle Orgly at No. 2.

Freshman David Moxley and junior Adam Pistel each won the first two games of their matches, but eventually fell in five sets. Junior Sam Ehrlich dropped the first set and stormed back to take a 2-1 lead, but could not complete the comeback in a five-set loss to Duncan Maxwell.

GW returns to action the weekend of January 27-29 with a quartet of matches in Maine. The Colonials head to Lewiston to face Tufts on Friday, Jan. 27, followed by Boston College and No. 19 Bates on Saturday, Jan. 28. GW finishes the weekend on Sunday, Jan. 29 in Brunswick against Bowdoin.
